Sugar Granny Skull Top -free crochet pattern-

I made this Sugar Skull Granny Square top back in July and then life got very busy for me with packing and moving into my new house, and now landscaping... so this project got put on hold until just now.  I was going to size it, chart it, and sell it, but... I've decided to make it a freebie!

I've done my best to try to explain how this top was made and I hope you can figure it out!

This pattern is completely made up of granny squares in different sizes and colors to complete the top.  There is A LOT of sewing required, and a lot of black yarn!  But if you love Sugar Skulls, then it's worth it!

The Patterns for each type of Granny Square are listed first.  You will make many of them! A drawn Chart and Assembly Instructions are following the square patterns.

Designed By: Farrah Hodgson aka Firene

Skill Level:  Intermediate/Advanced

Materials:
  • Light Worsted or Sport Weight yarn
  • Red Heart Soft Touch (Worsted) Black, 3 balls
  • Georga Baby Luv Baby Yarn (Sport) White - 1 ball; Red - 1 ball; Blue -1 ball
  • Size 4.5mm Crochet Hook
  • Yarn Needle

Size: Medium- Large

Finished measurements: 14 inches wide across bust, un-stretched.  21 inches long.

Gauge: 1 Medium Square =approx. 4 inches.

*Note: leave long tails at the end of each square and use this to sew together as you go.

*Warning: Lots of sewing, it’s ok not to sew stitch for stitch, as you want to close up any corner gaps as you can. Just make it look even!  Sometimes, it will seem like it’s going to be pulled, but it will all workout in the end because it’s stretchy!
