Summer is almost here, and you've probably already been making plans for your backyard, deck, patio, poolside, balcony, or whatever you call your outdoor space.  From gardening to barbecuing, and all of those accessories in between, did you know that there is plenty of room for crochet?!

The greatest thing about crochet (besides the health benefits), is that the sky is the limit.  You can make things in the colors and textures that YOU want, and use the style that YOU like!  You get to achieve a bit of uniqueness, and bask in the glory of your accomplishment... and bask in the sun... which leads me right into this first free pattern!

In fact, there are several ways of crocheting up your outdoor seating space, as in these free patterns...

G Squared Shorts -free crochet pattern-

Image
If you can make a granny square, then you can make these shorts!  Actually, I’ve written out the granny square instructions to help you out, if you’re new to this popular, highly used, and awesome square motif!
If you already know how to make a granny square, then you can just follow the color changes up until the last row.  The last row of each square is altered to add the “gusset” or crotch in the same fashion as denim shorts.  From here, the motifs are sewn together to form the shorts.  They will look big at this point, so here’s where the waist is shaped in 3 simple rows.
You may add a drawstring if you wish, or go really crazy and continue on to full length pants.  (My next project!)
I chose navy, grey, and white worsted weight yarns, mainly because I had them in my stash already!  So get creative and use whatever colors you want.  These would look pretty nice in one solid color as well.
*Note, your MAIN Color (the one that you want to use the most of) should be the last color used…
