365 Crochet

I have loved the Venetian Lace square for a very long time. There's SO much you can do with it. I will get into those other projects another day, but today I am going to show you my hanging plant holders! It's a bit inspired by macrame, though I love crochet much more. This pattern can easily be adjusted to fit various different plant pots by adjusting your yarn (or thread) and hook. You are going to have to play with setting your gauge to get a specific size, but to be honest, I just winged it and both sizes that I made worked out perfect! The first hanging plant holder I made, I used a size 3.5mm crochet hook and worsted weight size 4 cotton crafting yarn. Each square measures approximately 6 inches. For the second plant holder, I used a size 2.00mm crochet hook and size 10 crochet thread. Each square measures about 4 inches. Just remember that these will stretch! Well... this adorable crochet pillow caught my attention right away!  My daughter is obsessed with unicorns and I'm sure that this is something that she will want me to make for her, so I can't show her yet because she will never leave me alone until I make it!  I love how this pattern works from corner to corner and the color changes are easy enough. This is my second hula hoop mandala that I've made from jute!  I made my first one last fall, when hula hoops were 'out of season' and it was almost impossible to find one!  When I did find one, it had a bend in the hoop, I bought it anyway at a discount, and tried to get the bend out, but it came back and sorta ruined the look of my mandala.... that being said, this is the best time of year to buy hula hoops (spring!) This lovely is hanging on my black wall right now.  Although it makes for great and interesting wall art, it is going to make its way outside and hang from my garden shed (that I need to paint first).  This mandala is not hard to make, just a bit rough on the hands! You can easily make one in a few hours. If I could give jute a yarn weight, I'd say it's bulky or chunky. The hula hoop is one of the larger ones, although you could use a smaller one and simply adjust the number of stitches, as long as it's in multiples of 5. You begin by working...

Everyone needs a beautiful chevron crochet throw blanket (aka afghan!) and here's a wonderful pattern and tutorial to get you started!  I really like the chevron pattern, it's simple to make, and you can have a lot of fun playing with color!  The best afghans that I've ever made, seem to come from scrap yarn and miscellaneously putting colors together, so I think that this may be my next project! Crochet accent pillows always look so homey and cozy, and can really jazz up a room!  The best part is that you can make to your taste; your size, color, and style!  This particular pattern uses lots of texture by using post stitches. This is a pretty neat crochet idea for the home. If you've ever made casseroles (or any dish really) to take to a pot luck, party, or event, then you know what a pain it can be to carry; especially if it's hot, or you have a load of other things to carry at the same time. Check out this beauty!  This is definitely something that I want to make after the holidays when I have some time on my hands! I am pretty sure that this is the prettiest crochet mandala that I've seen so far. Happy belated fall! Now that the heat wave (in my part of the world!) has ended, it really is starting to look and feel like fall. It almost seems like the leaves have changed color over night!
