Sunflower Bikini

This is my own pattern.  It is part of my Fintage - Enviro-Friendly Clothing & Accessories shop and will be featured in my online store and will be on display at the Kingston Market this summer. (NB-CAN)  It is made from 100% Natural Bamboo and Hemp-Soy yarns, and features wooden beads on the straps.

Sunflower Bikini

Skill Level:  Intermediate

Hook Size:  2.0 mm

Yarn:    Mei Mei’s bamboo silk thread, Yarn Weight 1, Super Fine; 2 skeins of light yellow, 1 skein of dark yellow, 1 skein brown
            Mei Mei’s HempSoy, Yarn Weight 3, Light; 1 ball of green
 
Tools:  Tapestry needle for sewing

Size:  O/S (Small-Medium, 6-10) Stretchy 

Bust:  Each sunflower measures 7 inches wide x 7 inches high
Bottom:  Rear sunflower measures 11 inches x 11 inches, front sunflower measures 7 inches x 7 inches

The straps allow for a customizable fit.






Bikini Bra
Make two sunflowers
Center of Sunflower (Brown)
Rnd 1:  Ch2, 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook.  Sl st to beg sc.  Ch 1.  Do not turn.
From now on, you will be working in a spiral, do not turn.
Rnd 2:  2sc in each st around.  Sl st to beg sc.  Ch1.  (20 sts)
Rnd 3:  *2 sc in next st, sc in next st.* Repeat around.  Sl st to beg sc.  Ch 1.  (30sts)
Rnd 4:  *2sc in next st, sc in next st.* Repeat around.  Sl st to beg sc.  Ch 1.  (45 sts)
Rnd 5:   sc in each st around. Sl st to beg sc.  Ch 1.  (45 sts)
Rnd 6:  *2 sc in next st, sc in next st.* Repeat around. Sl st to beg sc.  Ch 1.  (68sts)
Rnd 7:  sc in each st around.  Sl st to beg sc.  Ch 1.  (68 sts)
Rnd 8:  *2 sc in next st, sc in next st.* Repeat around.  Sl st to beg sc Ch 1.  (102sts)
Rnds 9-13:  sc in each st around.  Sl st to beg sc Ch1.  (102 sts)
Fasten off.
Switch color to Dark Yellow
Rnd 14:  *sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st* repeat around.  Sl st to beg sc.  Ch 1.  (122sts)
Rnd 15:  sc in each st around.  Sl st to beg sc (122 sts)
Fasten off.

Petals of Sunflower (Light Yellow)
Picot= ch3, sl st to first ch
Join to where you left off.
Rnd 1:  sk 1st st.  *sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, tr in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next st, sc in next st.* Repeat from * to * 11 times (Makes 12 petals)
Rnd 2:  Ch 1.  *sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next st, (dc, tr) in next st, (tr, dc) in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next 3 sts.* Repeat from * to * 11 times.  Join with sl st.
Rnd 3:  ch 1.  *sc in next 3 sts, hdc in next st, 2dc In next st, 2tr in next st, picot, 2tr in next st, 2dc in next st, hdc, sc in next 3 sts.*  Repeat fro * to * 11 times.  Join with sl st.
Fasten off. 
Change Color to Dark Yellow
Rnd 4:  Ch 7.  Sc in 3rd ch from hook (counts as picot).  Tr in same st, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next 4 sts, 3dc in picot center of row 3, picot, 3dc in center of picot of row 3, sc in next 5 sts, *hdc in next st, dc in next st, tr in next 2 sts, picot, tr in next st, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next 4 sts, 3dc in center of picot row 3, picot, 3dc in center of picot of row 3* Repeat from * to * 11 times.  Sc in last 5 sts.  Join with sl st.
Fasten off.

Bikini Bra Straps  (Green HempSoy)
Strap Leaves (Make 2)
 Ch 25, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2ch, hdc in next 3 ch, dc in next 3 ch, tr in next 12 ch, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, 3sc in last ch.
Turn, working down other side of ch.  Sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in next 12 ch, dc in next 3 ch, hdc in next 3 ch, sc in last 3 ch.
Do not fasten off!
Ch 150, sl st in 2nd ch from hook.  Sl st in remaining 148 ch.  Sl st to join to top of leaf. 

Side Leaves (Make 2)
Ch 25, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 2ch, hdc in next 3 ch, dc in next 3 ch, tr in next 12 ch, dc in next ch, hdc in next ch, 3sc in last ch.
Turn, working down other side of ch.  Sc in next ch, hdc in next ch, dc in next ch, tr in next 12 ch, dc in next 3 ch, hdc in next 3 ch, sc in last 3 ch.
Fasten off.

Long Strap (Around Body) (Green HempSoy)
Ch 301.  Sl st in 2nd ch from hook.  Sl st in remaining 299 ch. 
Fasten off.





Assembly of Bikini Bra

Sew each of the 2 straps to the tops of each sunflower.
Sew the side leaves to each side of the sunflower.

Turn the Sunflowers backward to you.  You are now going to make a zig-zag  weave to hold the long strap as a drawstring.  Attach yarn to side of sunflower, ch4, sl st approx. ½ inch up, ch 4, sl st approx. ½  inch down.  Repeat this until you reach the outer edge of the leaf.  This is approximate, See photo.





Bikini Bottom

Front
Make one sunflower motif as you did above for the bikini top.

Straps
Make 4 leaves as you did above for the bikini top, but instead of chaining 150 for the strap, only ch 70, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, and sl st in remaining 68 ch.  Sl st to top of leaf.



Back
Make one large sunflower.

Center of Sunflower (Brown)
Rnd 1:  Ch2, 10 sc in 2nd ch from hook.  Sl st to beg sc.  Ch 1.  Do not turn.
From now on, you will be working in a spiral, do not turn.
Rnd 2:  2sc in each st around.  Sl st to beg sc.  Ch1.  (20 sts)
Rnd 3:  *2 sc in next st, sc in next st.* Repeat around.  Sl st to beg sc.  Ch 1.  (30sts)

Rnd 6:  *2 sc in next st, sc in next st.* Repeat around. Sl st to beg sc.  Ch 1.  (68sts)
Rnd 7:  sc in each st around.  Sl st to beg sc.  Ch 1.  (68 sts)
Rnd 8:  *2 sc in next st, sc in next st.* Repeat around.  Sl st to beg sc Ch 1.  (102sts)
Rnds 9-15:  sc in each st around.  Sl st to beg sc.  Ch1.  (102 sts)
Rnd 16:  *sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st*.  Repeat around.  Sl st to beg sc.  Ch 1.  (122sts)
Rnd 17:  sc in each st around.  Sl st to beg sc.  Ch 1.  (122 sts)
Rnd 18:  *sc in next 4 sts, 2 sc in next st*.  Repeat around. Sc in last 2 sts. Sl st to beg sc.  Ch 1.  (146sts)
Rnd 19:  sc in each st around.  Sl st to beg sc.  Ch 1.  (146 sts)
Fasten off.  Switch to Dark Yellow.
Rnd 20:  *sc in next 9 sts, 2 sc in next st.*  Repeat around. Sc in last 6 sts. Sl st to beg sc.  Ch1.  (160sts)
Rnds 21-23:  sc in each st around.  Sl st to beg sc.  Ch 1.  (160 sts)
Fasten off.

Large Sunflower Petals
Rnd 1:  Sk 1st st, (*sc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next 2 sts, tr in next 3 sts, dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next st* Repeat from * to * 3 times, sk next st.)  Repeat sequence ( to ) 3 times.  (12 petals) Join with sl st.
Rnd 2:  Ch 1, *hdc in next 3 sts, dc in next 2 sts, 2tr in next st, tr in next st, 2tr in next st, dc in next 2 sts, hdc in next 3 sts.*  Repeat from * to * 11 times.  Join with sl st.
Rnd 3:  Ch1.  *hdc in next 5 sts, 2dc in next st, 2tr in next st, tr in next st, 2tr in next st, 2dc in next st, hdc in next 5 sts.*  Repeat from * to * 11 times.  Join with sl st.
Rnd 4:  Ch 1.  *hdc in next 5sts, dc in next 4 sts, 4tr in next st, dc in next 4 sts, hdc in next 5 sts.*  Repeat from * to * 11 times.  Join with sl st.
Rnd 5:  Ch 1.  *sc in next 8sts, hdc in next st, dc in next st, 2tr in next st, picot, 2tr in next st, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next 8 sts.*  Repeat from * to * 11 times.  Join with sl st.
Fasten off.
Switch to Dark Yellow and Join where left off.
Rnd 6:  Ch7, sl st in 4th ch from hook, tr in same st, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next 7 sts, hdc in next 2 sts, dc in next st.  *3tr in center of picot from rnd 5, picot, 3tr in center of picot from rnd 5, dc in next st, hdc in next 2 sts, sc in next 7 sts, hdc in next st, (dc, tr) in next st, picot, (tr, dc) in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next 7 sts.*  Repeat from * to * 11 times.  Hdc in next st, (dc, tr) in last st.
Fasten Off.


Center (Crotch) of Bikini Bottoms (Green HempSoy)
Make One Large Leaf.
Rnd 1:  Ch 25.  Sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next 23 ch, 3 sc in last ch.
Working down opposite side of chain, sc in next 22 ch.  3sc in last ch (corner).  Join with sl st.  Do not turn.
Rnd 2:  sc in next 24 sts, 3sc in next st (corner), sc in next 24 sts, 3 sc in last st (corner).  Join with sl st.  Do not turn.
Rnd 3:  *sc in next st, hdc in next st, dc in next st, tr in next 20 sts, dc in next st, hdc in next st, sc in next st, 3 sc in next (corner) st* Repeat fro * to * once.  Join with sl st. 
Fasten off.




Assembly of Bikini Bottom

Sew a strap to each side of the smaller sunflower, close to the top.

Sew a strap to each side of the larger sunflower, close to the top,

Sew each end of the large leaf to the bottom of the small sunflower and to the bottom of the large sunflower, connecting the two flowers.

Add beads to ends of straps. (Optional)

I had been approached by a regular customer of mine, a mother of two small children, to create some treat/gift bags for the upcoming birthday of her little girl.  With the Bubble Guppies (kids tv show) as the theme, our first thought was to create character bags for each child.  However, instead we agreed on mermaid tail or fish tail bags, keeping in theme of the tv show, but making the bags similar to one another. Cabled Headband Hat w/big Button -free crochet pattern-

Here it is, my version of the crochet cabled headband slouchy hat with a great big button! I've been making this hat for over two years now, and it's still my top seller at local craft fairs, markets, and custom orders.  I've honestly been making it free form and from memory, but recently decided to actually write it down so that I can share it with you.  It's a very cute hat, and only requires knowledge of the basic stitches, plus the crab stitch (otherwise known as rsc - reverse single crochet) and working over post stitches. Baby Sport Diaper Cover -free crochet pattern-

I had been asked recently to make a baby blanket, and when I was done, I had a bit of yarn left over.  So I was thinking about using up the rest of my baby yarn to make a cute hat and diaper cover set to match the baby's blanket theme.  I've never made a diaper cover before, and I didn't think it would be too hard to find a free pattern, and it wasn't...  ...except that every single pattern that I found used medium worsted weight yarn, and I wanted to use my baby light sport weight yarn!  So that's how this pattern came to be.  This is an easy pattern starting with the top band, continuing all of the way around to the opposite end by using simple hdc stitches. Then the border is worked in sc stitches, and finished off by sewing on 2 buttons. Make it all one color, or add a sporty stripe. Enjoy!
